Jane Ellison, Battersea’s MP, is urging Wandsworth residents to apply to become Paralympic torch bearers.

Sponsors BT are looking for ’inspirational’ teams of five people to carry the flame on the eve of August’s Paralympic Games. Each team would carry the flame for 750 metres of its journey from Stoke Mandeville in Buckinghamshire to the Olympic Stadium in East London, although it is not yet clear whether the route will pass through Wandsworth.

Nominators and torch bearers must be at least 12 years old and nominations must be submitted by midnight on Friday 20 January.
